Spotlight: Singer-Songwriter Yasmine Hamdan

Drawing inspiration and attitude from great Arab songstresses of the mid-20th century, Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan takes an unconventional approach to her folk-infused electro pop music. A fixture on the Arabic underground scene, since first making waves as a founding member of the pioneering trip hop duo, SoapKills, Hamdan has continually evolved as a solo artist ever since. She named her upcoming record Al Jamilat after Mahmoud Darwish’s poem by the same name — “an ode to womanhood, complexity, diversity, beauty and fragility.” The record is expected shortly before she joins us at Big Ears!
